To Do

add the video of OF 25 and OF 26 here
give the transcript here and ask it to summarize and write blog post
organize the following sections into separate pages
  • Most of them already are synced into other pages though
consider if it makes sense to create a project about this
  • I think that’s a good idea to make it easier to organize, review, and add to over time
  • I could keep this task as is and just put it as a task in the project if that’s helpful
    • or perhaps i could put the synced parts in a toggle and make it easier to read this page
  • I created similar projects already that might be fitting for this
    • Hmmm I don’t see it… maybe there is a task about this but not a project?
      • It could be in Create Educational and Community Resources for the Optimism Collective and Optimism FractalCreate Educational and Community Resources for the Optimism Collective and Optimism Fractal…. but i think that educational project is very general and it’s helpful to have a more specific project for researching optimism collective governance in this season
    • See the toggle for list of projects and tasks where it may be helpful to include this

The faster we can build features to enable voting with Respect, the better we can position Optimism Fractal to play a leading role in Optimism Collective governance going into RetroFunding RetroFunding Round 6 (which is focused on governance). The Optimism Collective is seeking the kinds of solutions that Optimism Fractal provides, as you can see in their recently released blog posts about Experimenting with Deliberative Processes in the Collective The Path to Open Metagovernance, and plans to experiment with Impact Juries. The tooling that enables voting with Respect in flexible environments like Notion could greatly help Optimism Fractal community members earn significant funding, propel the growth of Optimism Fractal, and provide a powerful catalyzing force to implement fractal consensus processes throughout society.

Upcoming Retro rounds and their design

First, I appreciate the continous effort to innovate and experiment with the design of Retroactive Rounds as led by the Foundation, Here are some pivotal considerations and suggestions based on the proposed changes for the upcoming season: Overall, I think the design is moving in the right direction by having more tightly scoped rounds, and new experiments, and more!, ways in which to experiment with the design of each round: including how different types of impact are evaluated, prioritized th...

Experimenting with Deliberative Processes in the Collective

Experimenting with Deliberative Processes in the Collective As outlined in the Path to Open Metagovernance, Optimism takes an experimental approach to the development of the Collective’s governance system. One of our goals for Retro Funding in 2024, is to test a few clear hypotheses in each round, the results of which will inform the design of future rounds and/or other parts of the governance system. While the Foundation facilitates this iterative process, with the help of the Collective Fe...

Introducing the Collective Feedback Commission

Introducing the Collective Feedback Commission The Optimism Foundation stewards the development of the Optimism Collective’s governance system. The process by which the Collective takes on more responsibility for the system is iterative, and facilitated by the Foundation, based on community feedback. The Collective will gradually take on more governance responsibilities over time until the full system is maintained and managed by the Collective. It is at this point that the Foundation becomes ju...

A Citizens' Assembly for RPGF4

I propose piloting a Citizens’ Assembly process to support badgeholders in the assessment and voting process of the 4th round of Retro public good funding. This assembly would allow us to overcome the most blatant shortcomings of the RPGF3 process. It would refocus the process from collected intelligence to collective intelligence.

Decision Lego: A primitive on Governance for the 21st Century

Humanity stands at a critical juncture, confronting global challenges of unprecedented complexity that necessitate a collective approach to decision-making, spanning from local communities to the global arena. The existing governance processes, however, show signs of strain under these demands. Many of these processes, steeped in historical legacies, now grapple with the need for evolution, while emergent methods still falter in achieving effective implementation at a broader scale. Some methodologies even amalgamate the drawbacks of both traditional and contemporary systems. This underscores an urgent need to reinvigorate the discourse on governance, moving beyond the conventional paradigms of international relations and political theory.

Designing Equitable Airdrops: A Path to Inclusive Web3 Communities through Citizens' Assemblies
Towards an intersubjective concept of sortition

2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the first known “minipublics”. Since then, the discussion about the “right” process for selecting citizens through random selection for a political office (aka sortition) is ongoing. Major progress has been made in the theoretical and practical field. We have seen a strong community of practitioners gather; an incredible amount of research being made. In some cases, we have even seen a full circle: For example, in Germany door to door recruitment was used in the very first Planning cells and is again gaining traction as a preferred method after four decades of ignorance.
