Dear Optimism Fractal community

Optimism Fractal's 2-Year Anniversary Celebration & Future Planning
Date: Thursday, October 30th, 2025
Time: 17:00 UTC
Optimism Fractal turned two years old on October 20th, and this Thursday we're gathering to celebrate this remarkable milestone together. What began as an experimental approach to democratic coordination has evolved into something truly special - a community that has consistently shown up week after week, building relationships, developing innovative governance tools, and contributing meaningfully to the Superchain ecosystem.
The Journey So Far
Two years ago, we embarked on this journey with a simple yet powerful idea: that communities could coordinate democratically and effectively through the Respect Game, and the Optimism Collective’s Superchain and Ethereum provides the perfect place/soil to grow. Week after week, we've gathered to share our work, evaluate contributions, and most importantly, build the relationships that form the foundation of any thriving community. The Respect Game has proven to be more than just a governance mechanism - it's become a practice that brings us together, helps us understand each other's work, and creates the trust necessary for ambitious collaboration.
Over these two years, we've achieved remarkable things together. Nearly 100 unique participants have joined our events, contributing their diverse talents and perspectives to our collective mission. We've created over 100 educational videos that document not just our meetings, but our evolution as a community pioneering new forms of coordination. We've successfully implemented and operated ORDAO for nearly a year, demonstrating that onchain democratic governance isn't just theoretical - it's practical and powerful. Communities around the world have been inspired by our work and are implementing fractal governance in their own contexts.
Celebrating Together
While I initially considered more elaborate celebration plans (which you can see in the draft proposal I shared at a previous event and in our recent Optimism Town Hall episode where Eric and I discussed various anniversary ideas), it feels right to keep things more flexible and see what emerges when we gather. After our regular Respect Game, we'll have space during the town hall to celebrate however feels natural to the group.
We might share stories and memories from our journey together, recognizing the contributions of community members who have helped build what we have today. We could give brief speeches about what Optimism Fractal has meant to us and our hopes for the future. Or we might dive directly into planning discussions about our next steps. The beauty of our community is that whatever direction we choose, it will be meaningful because we're choosing it together.
For those who want to add a visual element to the celebration, I'll provide some Optimism Fractal themed Zoom backgrounds you can use during the call - a simple way to mark the occasion if you're so inclined.
Looking to the Future
As Eric thoughtfully pointed out in our last town hall, while it's important to celebrate where we've been, it's equally crucial to focus on where we're going. This being our second-to-last event of the season makes it perfect timing for both reflection and forward planning. The truth is, while we've accomplished incredible things, there's so much more we need to achieve to reach our community's full potential. We're still a relatively small community, and to truly fulfill our mission of fostering collaboration and optimizing governance on the Superchain, we need to grow - not just in numbers, but in impact, integration, and sustainability.
Year three presents enormous opportunities and responsibilities. Ethereum has come a long way, and 2025 promises to be a pivotal year for both Ethereum and Optimism as the world increasingly comes onchain. The Superchain is approaching interoperability, major networks continue joining and expanding, and we're witnessing the infrastructure for a new internet being built before our eyes. Optimism Fractal has a unique role to play in ensuring this transition happens in a way that's democratic, equitable, and aligned with our collective values.
Join Us for This Special Gathering
As we close out Season 6 and prepare for what will likely be our final event of the year before returning with renewed energy in 2025, this anniversary celebration serves as both a moment of recognition and a launching pad for our next phase. Whether you've been with us from the beginning or joined recently, your perspective and participation are valuable parts of our collective story.
We'll play the Respect Game as always, maintaining the practice that has brought us together for two years. Then we'll create space for whatever emerges - celebration, planning, storytelling, or strategic discussion. The flexibility isn't from lack of planning but from trust in our community to make the most of our time together.
This is more than just another event - it's a milestone moment for a community that has consistently shown up, contributed meaningfully, and pushed the boundaries of what democratic coordination can look like. Let's mark it together with the same spirit of collaboration and optimism that has defined our journey so far.
Hope to see you all there as we celebrate two years of building together and chart our course for an even more impactful year three!

Key Areas for Discussion
During our open discussion, we'll explore several critical areas for our development:
We need to enhance our integration with the Optimism Collective and various Superchain communities, ensuring that the innovations we develop serve the broader ecosystem effectively. Sustainable funding remains a crucial challenge - we need to develop mechanisms that support our contributors while maintaining our independence and values. Our software development must continue evolving to meet the needs of a growing ecosystem, making fractal governance more accessible and powerful. And our educational efforts need to expand, helping more people understand and implement democratic coordination.
These aren't just abstract goals - they're concrete needs that will determine whether Optimism Fractal becomes a cornerstone of Superchain governance or remains a fascinating but limited experiment. The good news is that we have incredible foundations to build upon. The relationships we've formed, the tools we've developed, the reputation we've earned - these are assets that position us perfectly for the growth ahead.

Celebrating Two Years of Optimism Fractal: Join Our Anniversary Formal! 🎉
Dear Optimism Fractal Community,
It's hard to believe that two years have passed since we gathered for our first Respect Game on that October day in 2023. What started as an experiment in democratic coordination has blossomed into a thriving community that has fostered collaboration, awarded public goods creators, and pioneered new forms of governance on the Superchain.
On October 30th, we invite you to join us for a special anniversary celebration - the Optimism Fractal Formal! We'll begin with our regular Respect Game at 17:00 UTC, followed by a celebratory Optimism Town Hall featuring our new "Optimistic Stories" game and time for reflection on our journey together.
Over these two years, we've achieved remarkable things together. We've welcomed nearly 100 participants who have contributed their unique talents and perspectives. We've created over 100 educational videos that document our evolution and share our innovations with the world. We've built groundbreaking software like ORDAO that enables truly democratic onchain coordination. We've inspired communities across the globe to implement fractal governance, from South Africa to various Web3 organizations exploring new ways to coordinate.
Perhaps most importantly, we've demonstrated that governance doesn't have to be boring or bureaucratic - it can be engaging, fair, and even fun when we approach it with the right spirit and tools. We've shown that the Respect Game isn't just a mechanism for evaluation; it's a foundation for building meaningful relationships and creating positive-sum outcomes for entire ecosystems.
Event Overview and Structure
The Optimism Fractal 2-year anniversary will maintain the familiar structure of your regular events while adding special celebratory elements. The event will begin with the standard Respect Game at the usual time, ensuring continuity and allowing everyone to participate in the core activity that has defined your community for the past two years. Following the Respect Game, you'll transition into an Optimism Town Hall session dedicated to celebrating your collective achievements and looking forward to the future.
This approach keeps things simple and accessible while creating space for meaningful celebration. By maintaining the regular schedule and format, you avoid confusion while still marking this important milestone in a special way.
The Optimism Fractal Formal Theme
To mark this special occasion, you're introducing the "Optimism Fractal Formal" theme, encouraging participants to dress up a bit for the celebration. This doesn't need to be overly formal or create barriers for participation - the idea is simply to add a touch of elegance and specialness to the event. Participants might wear a nice shirt, a jacket, a dress, or whatever makes them feel festive while remaining practical for their circumstances. For those joining from work or other locations where formal attire isn't possible, regular dress is perfectly fine. The goal is to create a celebratory atmosphere while maintaining the inclusive, welcoming nature of your community.
The Optimistic Stories Game
The centerpiece of your celebration will be the "Optimistic Stories" game, a heartwarming activity that celebrates both individual community members and the collective journey of Optimism Fractal. Here's how it will work:
Game Setup and Rules: Before the event, you'll prepare slips of paper with the names of participants who are present at the event. These go into a hat or bowl that Dan, serving as the "Happy Hatter," will manage throughout the game.
Game Flow: Participants take turns in the order they appear in the Zoom call. When it's someone's turn, Dan draws a name from the hat. The person whose turn it is then shares two things: first, a memory or story about the person whose name was drawn, perhaps recalling a memorable moment from a breakout room, a collaboration, or an interaction that exemplifies the spirit of your community. Second, they share their own experience with Optimism and Optimism Fractal over the past two years, reflecting on what the community has meant to them and how they've grown through participation.
Time Management: Each person gets approximately three minutes total - roughly ninety seconds to speak about their drawn community member and ninety seconds to share their Optimism journey. This keeps the game moving while allowing meaningful sharing.
Flexibility: If someone draws a name they don't know well, they can draw again, ensuring everyone can participate meaningfully. The format is flexible enough to accommodate various group sizes and dynamics.
Key Achievements to Celebrate
Your two-year journey has produced remarkable achievements worth celebrating:
Community Growth and Participation: Optimism Fractal has welcomed approximately 80-100 unique participants over two years, creating a diverse and engaged community of builders, thinkers, and innovators committed to fostering collaboration and optimizing governance on the Superchain.
Content Creation and Education: Together, you've produced over 100 videos between Optimism Fractal and Optimism Town Hall events, creating an invaluable educational resource and historical record of your community's evolution and discussions.
Technical Innovation: The community has built sophisticated software including the implementation of ORDAO (Optimistic Respect-based DAO), which has been operational for over a year. Multiple applications now support the Respect Game, with developers like Tadas, Abraham, and Howard contributing various tools and integrations.
Ecosystem Growth: Your work has attracted interest from communities worldwide, including groups in South Africa, Three Gens implementing ORDAO, and various nonprofits and organizations exploring fractal governance. Participants have joined accelerators and batch programs, spreading the influence of your innovations.
Superchain Integration: As the Superchain approaches interoperability and major networks like Base and World Chain continue growing, Optimism Fractal has positioned itself as a hub for governance enthusiasts and community leaders, ready to welcome the wave of new participants coming onchain.
Conclusion
Happy anniversary! Hope to see you there!
