Promotion and Showcasing Hats Protocol at Optimism Fractal

Optimism Fractal can trailblaze innovative use cases of Hats Protocol and broadcast our journey to set examples for all communities and organizations. This can provide educational overviews, interactive spaces, and helpful demonstrations of Hats Protocol that anyone can watch or join.

Optimism Fractal can promote Hats Protocol with our weekly event and show. Each event could subtly promote Hats Protocol as we explain how Respect gives you different benefits and powers, which are enabled by Hats Protocol. Depending on how tightly integrated Hats becomes with Optimism Fractal, there could also be subtle promotions throughout many of our webpages and promotions.

Some episodes will likely feature Hats Protocol as the main topic of discussion while we discuss, design, and approve proposals to implement Hats Protocol for various use cases during our recorded events. In this case, we would like produce and widely promote artful videos with Hats prominently features to help raise awareness for Hats Protocol.

Cross Promoting the Respect Game with Hats Protocol

The toolkits from Optimism Fractal and Hats Protocol are very complementary. Hats can make Respect more useful, helpful, and exciting. Respect can be a great reason to give hats. The Respect Game provides a collaborative space for culture and relationships to flourish, while Hats Protocol provides organizational structure that gives more meaning and utility to Respect.

As the Optimystics work to implement the Respect Game and related fractal consensus processes throughout society, we can promote Hats Protocol as a toolkit to make Respect more powerful for all communities and organizations. Eventually there may be opportunities to package the open source code from both protocols into products that people can use out of the box and easily configure to the needs of their community or organization in one simple app.

I see opportunity for cross-promotion between Optimism Fractal. There seems to be a natural complement between Hats Protocol and the Respect Game. As we implement consensus games and decision-making processes, I see potential to offer Hats Protocol as a solution to make Respect more useful and powerful.

Awarding Contributions to Hats Protocol

Optimism Fractal provides a place where builders, creators, and leaders can earn Respect by helping Hats Protocol. Contributions to Hats Protocol are contributions to Optimism, because it provides critical infrastructure for communities and organizations to cooperate on Optimism.

Design and Philosophy

Respect Game Mechanisms

If you’d like to gain a better understanding of the mechanisms for the Respect Game and our consensus process, then I’d recommend reading this page. You can also see this article for a more in-depth overview of the Respect Game and watch our most recently published videos to see how we’re using Respect to facilitate decentralized governance with the Optimism Fractal Council.

Council Details

The council is comprised of the top six respect earners who opt into a weekly registration poll. You can see exactly how this works here and see how it works in action in this video. We’re currently using an offchain process with the Optimism Fractal Snapshot Space, which requires a bit of manual cross-checking between proposal polls and registration polls.

We thought a lot about doing the comprising councils automatically onchain based upon respect earned over a recent period of time and have experimented with this in other fractal communities, but we decided to use the offchain approach instead for now. We’re using this solution because we didn’t have a solution to automatically update an account based on recent respect earners at the time and the opt-in approach also helps ensure that there will always be enough participation to approve proposals.

I’d be interested to learn if we could work out a way to store top respect-earner ranks onchain, that seems like it could be very useful for this purpose and many others in the future… It might also be good to retain an opt-in functionality so that respected community members don’t need to have the responsibility of serving on the council unless they choose to do so.

Hats Protocol events are on 2nd and 4th Thursdays at 11am est, but need to join the community first by signing the agreement
