Description
There’s been an average of about 8 or 9 participants at each Optimism Fractal event and there are 27 people who have earned Respect at events so far, as you can see here in the blockscout explorer. We aiming to increase participation exponentially in the coming months, both in terms of participants at Optimism Fractal and other communities or organizations implementing the Respect game.
The book and whitepaper that our consensus processes are based upon recommends no more than 7,776 or 10,000 participants per fractal community, so I imagine we’ll probably reach a steady state somewhere around there unless the community decides otherwise. You can find more details with screenshots showing the rationale here if you’re interested. We’ll think about this more when we get there but so far it hasn’t been a priority since the largest fractal election had around 200 participants and the largest weekly fractal event averaged about thirty participants.
We’re working to implement the Respect Game with several large organizations and one of them is aiming to onboard hundreds of weekly participants over the next few months. At Eden Fractal our mission to implement fractal decision-making processes throughout society and I expect that many millions of large communities and organizations will implement these consensus processes in the coming years.
The largest amount of participants we’ve had at a fractal event was about 200, though this was a couple years ago in an election before we started playing with Respect.

There are other fractal communities that have had an average participation of 20-40 participants and
- we’re aiming to achieve closer to this level of participation in the coming weeks/months, then grow exponentially from there.
- The book (link?) that inspired this concept of fractal democracy and respect games recommends that fractal communities should be limited to 10,000 participants. I remember there being some good rationale for this and we could also consider capping it at a higher or lower number when we get there.
