Optimism Fractal RetroSeason Planning
Introduction
Join us for a special Optimism Town Hall as we plan to kick off Optimism Fractal's RetroSeason and celebrate the upcoming one-year anniversary!
This week’s event marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter where we'll showcase our community's achievements, explore innovative ways to measure impact, and help shape the future of RetroFunding in the Optimism Collective.
Optimism Fractal RetroSeason
I'm excited to introduce Optimism Fractal RetroSeason, a comprehensive initiative designed to celebrate our achievements, evaluate contributions, and demonstrate the value Optimism Fractal provides to the Optimism Collective. RetroSeason will feature several key components:
- Optimism Fractal RetroPitches and Retrospectives
- Optimism Governance RetroPitches for Retro Funding Round 6
- RetroPolls for both Optimism Fractal and Optimism Governance contributions
RetroSeason expands our evaluation process to include contributions to Optimism Collective Governance. We'll invite public goods creators participating in RetroFunding Round 6 and create wider-reaching polls that incorporate various forms of reputation tokens, allowing diverse groups of stakeholders across the Collective to participate.
The results from both sets of polls will be compiled into a report measuring the impact of public goods creators in our community and the wider Superchain. Our goal is to assist the Collective in evaluating and rewarding contributors to Optimism Governance in Retro Funding Round 6, while enhancing mechanisms for future retroactive public goods funding.
More details about Optimism Fractal RetroSeason can be found in this draft article.
Optimism Fractal Retro Pitches and Retrospectives
As part of RetroSeason and the anniversary celebration, we'll host Optimism Fractal RetroPitches and Retrospectives, where community members will share their experiences and contributions over the past year. Each participant will have 3-5 minutes to present a retrospective on their journey with Optimism Fractal, including personal impact, contributions, and how they've helped grow Optimism through our community.
This event, which is planned to take place at next week’s Optimism Town Hall, offers a unique opportunity to showcase Optimism Fractal's progress, demonstrate our collective achievements, and summarize how you’ve contributed to the community over the past year while celebrating our community’s anniversary together.
Optimism Governance RetroPitches
Following the Optimism Fractal RetroPitches, we'll host Optimism Governance RetroPitches. These events will invite public goods creators participating in RetroFunding Round 6 to present their contributions to Optimism Governance. This will provide a platform for showcasing the broader impact of projects within the Optimism ecosystem.
The design of these RetroPitches is inspired by our successful three week RetroPitches pilot program organized during RetroPGF Round 3, Eden Fractal’s first anniversary episode, and several related experiments documented in this article.
RetroPolls
To complement the RetroPitches and retrospectives, we'll introduce RetroPolls, a new public goods evaluation system. Community members will vote with their Respect tokens on contributions to both Optimism Fractal and Optimism Governance. This will provide a democratic way to evaluate impact within our community and the wider Collective, serving as a model for RetroFunding.
This combination of RetroPitches and RetroPolls creates a comprehensive system for fair and transparent contribution assessment, potentially informing future capital allocation and RetroFunding rounds. The concept of RetroPolls is inspired by Respect Trees (and this draft design in particular), as we discussed in last week's episode of Optimism Town Hall.
Get Involved
Join us for the planning session this week and the upcoming RetroSeason events share your story, hear from fellow community members, and learn about exciting developments in how we measure and reward contributions to public goods. Your participation will help shape the future of both Optimism Fractal and the Optimism Collective!
Stay tuned for more details about the next initiatives in RetroSeason and how you can get involved in this exciting new chapter for Optimism. Feel free to ask questions and share feedback or related comments at this week's town hall, as the plans are still development and your input is appreciated. Looking forward to seeing you at this week's events and hearing your thoughts!
Optimism Fractal RetroSeason
At this week’s event I’ll also introduce the broader Optimism Fractal RetroSeason, which will feature RetroPitch events focused on Optimism Governance and expands our evaluation process to contributions to Optimism Collective Governance. We’ll invite public goods creators participating in RetroFunding Round 6 and create wider-reaching polls that incorporate various forms of reputation tokens, allowing diverse groups of stakeholders across the Collective to participate.
If all goes according to plan, the results from both sets of polls will be compiled into a report measuring the impact of public goods creators in our community and the wider Superchain. Our goal is to assist the Collective in evaluating and rewarding contributors to Optimism Governance in Retro Funding Round 6, while enhancing mechanisms for future retroactive public goods funding. This effort showcases our consensus processes, governance mechanisms, and capital allocation protocols, demonstrating the value Optimism Fractal provides to the Optimism Collective.

Introducing Optimism Fractal RetroSeason
As we celebrate the one-year anniversary of Optimism Fractal, we're thrilled to announce the launch of RetroSeason - a groundbreaking series of events and initiatives designed to recognize, measure, and reward the incredible contributions of our community members.
What is RetroSeason?
RetroSeason is a multi-week celebration and evaluation period that embodies the spirit of retroactive public goods funding. It's our way of looking back at the past year, acknowledging the impact of our contributors, and setting the stage for even greater achievements in the future.
Key Components of RetroSeason:

- RetroCensus: A comprehensive survey of our community's activities, achievements, and growth over the past year. This data will help us understand the full scope of Optimism Fractal's influence.
- RetroFunding Distribution: Building on the principles of retroactive public goods funding, we aim to distribute rewards to contributors based on their measured impact throughout RetroSeason.
Why RetroSeason Matters:
RetroSeason is more than just a celebration - it's a pioneering experiment in decentralized impact evaluation and community recognition. By leveraging the wisdom of our community and innovative onchain tools, we're creating a model for fair, transparent, and effective public goods funding.
This initiative aligns perfectly with Optimism's vision of rewarding positive impact and fostering a thriving ecosystem of builders and contributors. It's our way of demonstrating how fractal governance and gamified participation can drive meaningful growth and collaboration.

Now make an ideas pictures that we may want to create for the first event and other pictures that we may want to create for retroseason. Use the transcripts as well as other ideas that come to mind
Here are some ideas for pictures we could create for the first event and RetroSeason:
For the first event (RetroPitches):
- A "One Year Anniversary" banner with the Optimism Fractal logo and key milestones from the past year.
- A retrospective timeline graphic showing major events and achievements of Optimism Fractal over the past year.
- An infographic showing key stats from the first year (e.g., number of events held, participants, onchain attestations).
- A "RetroPitches" logo combining elements of a megaphone and the Optimism logo.
For RetroSeason:
- A "RetroSeason" logo that incorporates elements of time (like a clock or calendar) with the Optimism Fractal aesthetics.
- Icons for each component of RetroSeason (RetroPitches, RetroPolls, RetroCensus, RetroFunding) that can be used consistently across communications.
- A flowchart or infographic explaining how RetroSeason works, from pitches to funding distribution.
- A visual representation of the Respect token being used in RetroPolls, perhaps showing tokens being "cast" into voting pools.
- An illustration of a "fractal tree" where each branch represents a different aspect of community contributions, tying into the fractal democracy concept.
- A "RetroCensus" graphic that looks like a survey form but with Optimism-themed questions and design elements.
- A "RetroFunding" graphic showing OP tokens flowing from a central pool to community members, based on their measured impact.
- A series of "before and after" images showing the growth of various Optimism Fractal initiatives over the year.
- A word cloud formed in the shape of the Optimism logo, featuring key terms and concepts from the past year of Optimism Fractal.
- An "impact heatmap" visualization showing areas of the Optimism ecosystem that have been most influenced by Optimism Fractal contributions.
These visuals could help make the RetroSeason more engaging and help communicate complex concepts in an accessible way.
