Context: A New Chapter
As Optimism Fractal celebrates its second anniversary and prepares to conclude Season 6, we stand at the threshold of a new chapter. We're simultaneously entering a new year (2026), launching a new season (Season 7), and beginning our third year as a community. This convergence of transitions makes it perfect timing for reflection and forward planning.
While we've accomplished incredible things over two years, there's so much more we need to achieve to reach our full potential. These thoughts might help inspire discussion - we can get much more detailed about specific goals and initiatives in the coming weeks and at upcoming events as we head into the new year. I'm eager to hear everyone's perspectives on these ideas and what other priorities you think we should consider.
1. Community Growth & Sustainability
Optimism Fractal remains a relatively small community. To fulfill our mission of fostering collaboration, awarding public goods creators, and optimizing governance on the Superchain, we need to grow strategically. This means not just increasing numbers, but attracting diverse perspectives, skills, and contributions. We should explore sustainable funding mechanisms that support our contributors while maintaining our independence and values.
2. Enhanced Superchain Integration
As the Superchain approaches interoperability and major networks continue joining, Optimism Fractal needs deeper integration with the Optimism Collective and various Superchain communities. We should position ourselves as the go-to resource for communities seeking democratic coordination tools, making our innovations more accessible and impactful across the ecosystem.
3. Software Development & Innovation
Our tools need continued evolution to meet growing ecosystem needs. This includes improving the Respect Game interface, enhancing ORDAO functionality, and developing new applications that make fractal governance more accessible. We should also focus on better documentation and educational resources to help communities implement these tools effectively.
4. Sustainable Funding Models
The question of sustainable funding remains critical. We need to explore and implement mechanisms that provide reliable support for contributors while aligning incentives with long-term community health. This might include deeper integration with RetroPGF, exploring new token models, or developing novel funding mechanisms that preserve our democratic principles.
5. Educational Expansion
With over 100 videos created, we have a strong educational foundation. In Year 3, we should systematize this knowledge, creating comprehensive guides, workshops, and onboarding materials that help new communities implement fractal governance. This positions Optimism Fractal as the educational hub for democratic coordination on the Superchain.
6. Strategic Partnerships
We should actively pursue partnerships with other communities and projects that share our values. This includes other fractal communities, Superchain projects, and organizations interested in democratic governance. These partnerships can amplify our impact and create network effects that benefit the entire ecosystem.
7. Governance Evolution
While the Respect Game has proven effective, we should continue experimenting with governance mechanisms. This might include exploring new game formats, testing different evaluation criteria, or developing specialized governance tools for specific use cases. Innovation in governance remains central to our mission.
8. Global Expansion
Communities worldwide are implementing fractal governance, but we could do more to support this expansion. This might include creating multilingual resources, hosting regional events, or developing ambassador programs that help fractal governance spread to new ecosystems and cultures.
The Opportunity Ahead
Ethereum has just turned ten years old, marking a decade of decentralized innovation. As we head into 2026, the world needs to come onchain, and we have the opportunity to help shape this transition. While the Superchain continues evolving, we aim to help it achieve democratic, equitable coordination at scale - ensuring the infrastructure for this new internet serves humanity's collective values.
The foundations we've built over two years - strong relationships, proven governance mechanisms, respected reputation, and real influence - position us perfectly for the growth ahead. Now it's not just about dreaming big, but about executing persistently, working together to make it happen.
These focus areas are meant to inspire discussion, not dictate direction. The beauty of our community is that we decide together where to focus our energy. Your input shapes our path forward - please share your thoughts in the Optimism Fractal Discord, at our upcoming events and town halls, or wherever our community gathers. What matters most is that we approach Year 3 with ambition, clarity, and continued commitment to our mission.
As we celebrate two years and plan for three, let's work toward what Optimism Fractal can become and the impact we can have on the emerging onchain world - one game at a time.
