Why do channels cost warps? Just like domain names, we're adding a fee to discourage people from squatting popular names. Some part of the fees will be distributed back to popular channels. More details next week. Existing channels and leads get their first year free.

Channels are (partially) decentralized. - Casts are available on the protocol. - Metadata is available over a Warpcast API - Features like boost and hide not available outside Warpcast yet. We commit to decentralizing as much as possible if channels become popular over the next few months.

Please don’t squat channel names or try to impersonate others. We will take them back and we won’t return your warp fee if it’s clearly malicious. More details here:

Aren't channels permissionless? Assuming then this fee is for priority distribution in the WC app but unaffected at protocol level? also heads up the url in the notion FAQ has a typo!

What are the pro / cons of paying for a channel without plans to start using it immediately (to secure the name)?

- if well intentioned and no activity for a while, we'll take it back if someone else asks for it later and refund the remaining warps for the year - if obviously malicious (impersonation or registering lots of empty channels) we won't refund when we take it back

it'd be nice if there was an FIP-2 url or contract address input on channel creation in warpcast. two hypersub users have already created channels in warpcast for their subscription NFTs, which are different from the FIP-2 feeds in hypersub. now they have to post in *both* places, which seems broken cc @tokenart.eth
