Responsibilities and Instructions

It’s important for leads to fulfill a few key responsibilities to help the community succeed. These are the three essential responsibilities of the lead.

Admin Fractalgram

• The way to set up fractalgram is explained in this short article and you can learn how to use it within a couple minutes. The link to set it up from is https://fractgram.web.app/.

• Backup Plan: If there are any issues with fractalgram, you can also vote in the chat as you type who you vote for, type your addresses, and then submit your consensus on the web app at https://optimismfractal.web.app/.

Encourage Punctuality

• Help move along conversation. Allow discussions to flow naturally, but remind participants of the time constraints and need to finish on time.

• Aim to reach consensus by 17:45 to ensure that we’ll have time
• If it goes past 17:45 that’s ok and we have until 18:00 to make a decision, but it’s best to aim for 17:45 because the group won’t earn Respect if they don’t reach consensus by 18 UTC

Help with Telegram and Optimism Addresses

• Ask new participants if they have telegram and optimism/EVM addresses
• If anyone hasn’t yet created an Optimism address, refer them to OptimismFractal.com/accounts

Recommended Instructions

These are recommended instructions for leads, which aren’t always required but generally help create better experiences for all participants:

Finish the Game Early

• Please try to keep the conversation moving, post consensus onchain, and complete the Respect Game by 17:50
• This will allow us to have ten minutes after the Respect Game for open discussions before Optimism Town Hall begins

Set Timer for Participants

• Set timer for 4 minutes for each participant
• If there are less than 6 people in the group, the timer could be set to 5 minutes instead

Encourage Screen and Link Sharing

• Remind participants that they can share their screen if they want to give a visual overview of their contributions

• Encourage participants to share links to their work on discord and notion (and say any links out loud for listeners)
• You can share your contributions in the #contributions channel on discord and the 🪴Weekly Contributions page on notion
• This makes it more welcoming for people to promote their work and easier for viewers or other participants to find their work
• This makes it clear that self-promotion is valued and appreciated during the respect game, which increases the value proposition of promoting your work

Record Video of Room

Foster Welcoming Atmosphere

• Help make the room more fun, welcoming, and enjoyable
• For example, if there’s a gap in the conversation after someone presents, it can be a good idea to thank them and then ask if they want to pick someone to go next
• It’s often good to thank people and share a sentence or two
• If any new participants don’t take the four minutes, it can be helpful to remind or encourage them that they can share more if they’d like before passing it on
• if new participants are shy and stop speaking well before 4 minutes, then offer that they can speak more before passing it on if they want
• Ask if anyone has questions or comments related to reaching consensus before reaching consensus
• If nobody asks a question and there’s ample time remaining, then it can be good to go ahead and ask a question that would help the group reach consensus
• Try to make the most of our time together. It can be nice to have some space and silence occasionally, but it’s also good to be outgoing and spark up interesting discussions that everyone enjoys
• Remember to help the group do their best to focus on the goal. At Optimism Fractal, we aim to rank contributions towards Optimism. So (assuming that there is enough time) it can be helpful to ask other participants to weigh the relative value of contributions or share your thoughts to help the group choose the consensus results that most accurately rank contributions. The process of deliberation to determine what is most helpful for the group is valuable in itself.

• Feel free to advocate for people in the group who are doing really great work, especially if they’re more quiet or humble by nature and aren’t apt to promote their own work much.
• If there’s some time at the end before the players return to the community room, consider asking a question about someone’s work, sharing a joke, or making an interesting comment.
• It can be helpful to make a quick note when someone says something especially interesting in their presentation that you can ask them about afterwards to help educate the group

• Ideally the lead should have their Respect Game contributions or presentation already prepared, so they can set a good example for other participants and be fully focused on the other participants in the room

Announce the Gameplay Progress

• It can be helpful to announce the game as it’s in progress so everyone (including viewers or new participants) have a better understanding of what’s happening
• Remind participants and viewers of the objective. For example, when ranking for level 6 you can ask ‘who do you think did the most to help optimism this week’?

• The lead could prepare a brief speech or presentation for the start of the room, while also providing a good introduction for any viewers

Share Welcome Guide and Answer Questions

• You can share OptimismFractal.com/welcome with any new participants who are unfamiliar with the process

Communicate with Host if Necessary

• Communicate with meeting host in discord in needed for issues
