Summary
Hey folks! Ben Jones here--I'm a cofounder of the Optimism Collective and work as Chief Scientist at the Optimism Foundation. Our team is thrilled by the Treasure’s interest in Layer 2 solutions, sharing our commitment to Ethereum's growth and decentralization principles. We're highly aligned with Treasure's approach to community-driven, decentralized gaming. Now, we want to continue that vision, starting with a proposal for Treasure to join the Optimism Superchain, and build Treasure Chain on the open source OP Stack.
Optimism is on a mission to empower builders to create an internet that benefits all, owned by none, and committed to supporting Treasure in building the decentralized ecosystem that transforms game publishing. Together, we have the opportunity to shape the future of the decentralized web.
Rationale
Treasure is the leading decentralized gaming ecosystem, creating a community-first entertainment powerhouse accessible to all. With leading Web3-native games and IP, Treasure has ambitious goals - and the potential - to reach millions of players globally.
We know Treasure is looking for an Ethereum-aligned team to work with; a team that is focused on decentralization, has conviction in gaming, and isn’t afraid to make big bets. Treasure Chain built on the OP Stack is the best path forward to support the growth of the Treasure Community.
As Treasure shifts its focus to its own L2 chain, it seeks to align its ambitious vision of building a community-driven games empire with the right partner. Building a dedicated L2 is a natural progression in Treasure’s vision to be the decentralized gaming publisher - it provides the technological scale needed to reach a wider audience and helps equip developers with the tools they need to create innovative games and share in the ecosystem’s collective success. Treasure has the opportunity to play a significant role in trailblazing gaming in the Optimism ecosystem, and the Optimism Collective is committed to supporting Treasure Chain’s success, with access to its leaders in the gaming space and a roadmap being tailored to address the specific needs of gaming and consumer segments, like reduced fees and user experience.
A Thriving, Open Ecosystem
Like Treasure, the Optimism Collective is rooted in open source ethos. Our commitment to building for and with the community has helped grow our ecosystem to where it is today - and that growth extends far beyond Optimism. Over 40% of L2s leverage Optimism’s code, making it the most used development stack.
The Optimism Collective has grown into a global network of developers, with contributions from teams like Base, Zora, Worldcoin, Risc0, O1 Labs, Lattice, Espresso and others that are actively working to bring the next billion builders, creators, and users onchain. We are committed to supporting Treasure’s success in this new venture on all levels.
Governed by a Non-Plutocratic and Human-Centric System
Builders can enjoy peace of mind, knowing that the Superchain will be governed by a non-plutocratic and human-centric governance model. Optimism Governance, a bicameral governance system, oversees the OP Stack and the Superchain. It is guided by the Law of Chains, a framework designed to prioritize the welfare of all stakeholders over the interests of a select few.
Proposal
We propose that Treasure joins the Optimism Superchain and leverages the OP Stack. This partnership would make Treasure Chain part of a network of interoperable L2s, and provide access to the benefits of shared liquidity and composability with users.
- Ease of Deployment and Maintenance: Joining the Superchain makes Treasure an integral part of Optimism's ecosystem, starting with tools and services for a seamless launch. Treasure will receive the support and guidance needed to effectively launch and maintain this network. This includes, but is not limited to, access to various pre-negotiated services (e.g block explorers, RPCs, RaaS services) and dedicated support from our internal team.
- Governance Participation: Treasure will engage actively in Optimism's governance, influencing the Superchain's direction and potentially participating in the OP Chain Delegation Program.
- Shared Upgrades: Being part of the Superchain gives Treasure access to OP Stack’s innovative and open-source upgrades including fault proofs, 4844, span batches, and more!
- Interoperability: We aim to enhance Ethereum's scalability through a network of interoperable L2s, providing Treasure Chain the benefits of shared liquidity and composability. In the future, Treasure Chain would benefit from the composability of the ecosystem built with industry leading teams such as Base, Zora, Lattice, and more.
- Developer Support: As developers within the Treasure ecosystem scale to need their own chains, they will have direct access to teams across the Optimism Collective, including Optimism’s’ developer relations support.
- Funding: Treasure Chain will be eligible for funding through the following mechanisms:
- Foundation Grants: Grants focused on migration support and driving overall growth of the Treasure ecosystem.
- RetroPGF: Developers within the Treasure Chain ecosystem are eligible to receive allocations from RetroPGF for their forthcoming contributions to the Superchain ecosystem. While past results are not an indication of future rounds, badgeholders allocated 10M OP to projects building in the Base ecosystem last round.
- Service Agreements: The Optimism team has pre-negotiated services at a discounted rate that the Treasure will be able to access to, driving down chain costs. The Optimism team is actively managing rising costs for chains in the Superchain through these service agreements.
Key Requirements:
- Commitment to the Law of Chains: The Law of Chains ensures that the Superchain remains an open, neutral ecosystem. A commitment to the Law of Chains, alongside the likes of Base, protects shared standards for all Superchain participants.
- Funding Public Goods: All OP Chains commit to contribute 2.5% of sequencing revenue or 15% of sequencing profit (L2 profit minus L1 data costs) to the Optimism Collective to allocate to RetroPGF and other ecosystem projects. RetroPGF supports public goods, enabling the development of the open source OP Stack and the broader Superchain ecosystem.
