Draft Proposal for Implementing Optimism Fractal Participant Agreement
Title: Implementing the Optimism Fractal Participant Agreement for Season 6
Important Note
This initial draft proposes implementing an Optimism Fractal Participant Agreement. I’m sharing it now to gather feedback from the community. Please note that it is an early work in progress. We plan to finalize and implement the agreement at the start of Season 6. I’m happy to provide comment access for any interested community members on this page, and all feedback is welcome.
Proposal Action
This proposal establishes the Optimism Fractal Participant Agreement outlined below as a requirement for participation in events beginning in Season 6. All community members must sign this agreement to participate in future events, providing clear consent for content sharing and establishing appropriate expectations.
The Agreement
Optimism Fractal Participant Agreement
By participating in Optimism Fractal events, I agree to the following terms:
- Video Recording Consent: I understand that all Optimism Fractal and Optimism Town Hall events are recorded. I consent to being recorded during these events and to having these recordings shared publicly.
- Content Usage Permission: I grant permission for Optimism Fractal, Optimism Town Hall, Eden Creators, Optimystics, and other community members to:
- Share event recordings on websites, social media, and other platforms
- Create and share clips and highlights featuring my participation
- Use my name and contribution information in promotional materials
- Include my participation in educational and informational content
- Funding Expectations: I understand that participating in events, earning Respect tokens, and being included in videos does not entitle me to any funding or financial compensation. While the community may distribute fun to participants in the future, such distribution is not guaranteed and will be determined by separate governance processes.
- Community Values: I agree to participate in a manner that aligns with the community's values of collaboration, respect, and constructive engagement.
I understand that this agreement will be recorded on-chain using the Hats Protocol agreement module, providing an immutable record of my consent.
Purpose
The Optimism Fractal Participant Agreement creates a foundation for scalable community growth by ensuring all participants share a common understanding of event participation terms. This agreement addresses two critical needs: 1) establishing clear consent for content creation and distribution, and 2) setting appropriate expectations regarding community participation and potential funding opportunities. By implementing this agreement, we create the necessary infrastructure for enhanced promotion, clearer communication, and greater community protection as we scale.
Implementation Details
- Implement the agreement using Hats Protocol's on-chain agreement module for transparent, immutable consent recording
- Require agreement signature for participation in Season 6 events
- Design systems for progressive agreement evolution as community needs develop
- Provide support for participants during the transition to the new agreement requirement
Strategic Rationale
The implementation of a participant agreement represents a strategic investment in Optimism Fractal's future growth and resilience. As our community scales, formalized agreements become increasingly important for several reasons:
Enhanced Promotion Capabilities: Currently, our ability to effectively promote individual contributors and their work is constrained by the lack of explicit consent for content sharing. With clear permissions established through the agreement, both the Eden Creators/Optimystics promotional team and other community members can confidently create and share targeted content that highlights specific contributions, increasing visibility for builders' work across the ecosystem.
Community Protection: As we grow, the agreement establishes boundaries and expectations that help protect the community from potential misunderstandings or disputes. This creates a more secure environment for all participants and reduces potential legal liabilities for community organizers and content creators.
Scalable Content Creation: The agreement empowers more community members to create and share content from events, multiplying our reach and impact. This distributed content creation capability is essential for scaling our promotional efforts beyond what a core team can accomplish alone.
Foundation for Fund Distribution: As Optimism Fractal develops capabilities for fund distribution, clear agreements become even more critical. The agreement helps set appropriate expectations about participation and reward mechanisms, reducing potential conflicts by explicitly stating that participation alone does not guarantee funding.
Progressive Evolution: We envision this agreement as the first step in an evolving framework. Starting with simple, essential protections allows us to establish the practice of formal agreements without overwhelming participants. As the community grows and needs evolve, we can progressively enhance the agreement with additional protections and clarifications through future proposals.
Alignment with Ecosystem Growth: This approach follows successful practices from established communities like the Genesis Fractal, which implemented comprehensive legal protections through formal agreements. Our approach begins with accessibility while creating pathways to more robust protections as needed.
By implementing this foundational agreement now, we position Optimism Fractal for successful scaling while maintaining the community's collaborative spirit and accessibility. This balance between protection and openness will be essential as we continue to grow our impact across the Superchain ecosystem.
