Rosmari’s Notes
Website recommendations
- ‘Respect Game’ page I think it’s too long because there are quite a lot of bullet points. I think it will be better to have a simplified version of this page and take the details of all the benefits to another page that just links to it.
- The ‘Details’ page in OptimismFractal.com’s main page
I think the name ‘Details’ doesn’t sound appealing. How about we rename this to ‘Game Rules’ for example?
Make suggestions 4. The gallery view for ‘Media’ page is a must in my opinion
This will make the content much more visible and better to browse through
- Add Farcaster to the website as currently we dont mention our presence there
Recommendations for Optimism Fractal’s main page
This is one of the most commonly shared link and we want to make it very professional, elegant, and simple. I have noticed the below which can be improved: 1. The black space between the first image and the rest of the text is a lot and i have to scroll just to get passed it
- The images do not blend in well because their background isn’t matching with the background of the main page which is black. You can see the difference between the two. I suggest to take each of these images on the main page and make their background fully black. This will make them blend in more and look more professional.
- The black space between each image isn’t equal. Sometimes there is more black space than needed and when compared to the rest of the images.
- The button is below the end of the image and the text doesn’t match the size of the image.
- I think we should try to keep the text very concise, catchy, and straight to the point. For example i think the part about ‘whether you’re new to optimism…’ and ‘feel free to reach out…’ not needed
- The images
The images are generally nice but also i think some of them aren’t professional and are too much, quite similar, and/or not super relevant.
Examples below:
- Looking at the website on Mobile
- There are occasions as a user scrolls to just see two images next to each other and no text which provides a bad user experience
- The images don’t blend in with the background because their background black colour is lighter in comparison with the black colour of the website’s wallpaper (this is mentioned in the second point above)
- The combination of the above doesn’t look professional and i don’t think the current main page does us a favour in attracting users to stay more on the website and explore further.
- CTA button for each image might be too many buttons and actions for a user to take as they’re just learning about it and might be a distraction for users if they are too many and too frequent as in this case.
- The current design with image and text shows some significant signs to users that we have done it in a hurry and we’re not putting attention to details to provide the best user experience. A couple of reasons why i think the design has to be changed:
- It will be good to maybe have more of a standard looking main page with main information front and center without the user to have to scroll a lot. The scrolling can be left for other pages which aren’t the main page.
- It will be good to keep adding more information to this main page but currently it looks busy as it is with quite a few images which take up a lot of space and there’s a lot of black space in between that is empty and wastes people’s times to scroll past
- A feedback section at the main page is vital and shows legitimacy to users so I want to add that without it looking crowded.
- The first image that people see takes up the whole screen and i dont know if its what’s the most important thing to see but can be interpreted as overwhelming if people don’t event know what Optimism Fractal is about.
To conclude, the overview of the website may seem that we’re not so serious about it because it just looks like not much effort has been put in to perfect it. I’d prefer more of a simplistic design with super useful information, minimal amount of images, less black space and scrolling.
Curious to hear your thoughts,
Dan’s Response
Prioritize, organize, and delegate tasks
- Should this be added as a project in
Optimism Fractal Projects?
- I think that’s a better idea than in , because it allows someone else to do it as well. Maybe there are some website builders in the community who know how to do it better than us?
- Should we focus on other priorities first, like improving promotions, video sharing, fractal app development, and funding sources (like FractalJoy and OPF Trees)?
- Should we choose which are the highest priorities to focus on now and what can be saved for later?
- Should Dan or Rosmari focus on this? Or both of us?
- Should we focus on improving this or recruiting more people to help first?
- Should we bring this up as a topic of discussion at an upcoming OF meeting?
Optimize the site for mobile
- I think this is the single biggest priority right now. The site looks bad on mobile and most people will look at it there
- 80-90% of people look on mobile, not desktop. Our mobile experience is lacking.
- can this be done with css or a different template?
- if super can’t help, consider if we should just optimize it for mobile by putting each column in the same orientation
- Maybe this could work and it might be worth trying, but I don’t think over-optimizing for mobile an option is a good idea unless the desktop view looks good as wel. It needs to be optimized for desktop as well because that’s needed for all of introductory presentations during the events and videos
Improve the Homepage
- The website of Optimism Fractal could more generally support all fractals on Optimism
New Content for OptimismFractal.com
- I think it makes sense to add some new calls to action
- Build with Optimism Fractal
- We can link to the repositories and public notion page (via a bitly link so that it works)
- Earn/Get Respect?
- Maybe it’d be good to provide this as a call to action, similar to how Ethereum.org has a call to action of Get ETH
- Four items could be: Watch videos, join events, Earn respect, build with Optimism Fractal. Or something like that
Improve the Media Page
- Should we keep the media page live for a while as well in case people click both?
- One of the reasons why it’s called media is because it includes articles and show notes as well. Should we have both or just include the articles on the videos page anyway?
Make poll for Optimism Fractal community
- Would you mind if the Optimystics posted from the Optimism Fractal twitter and farcaster account?
- So far we’ve just been reposting messages from the Optimism Fractal account to maintain a more neutral messaging from the Optimism Fractal and not ‘speak’ too much on it’s behalf without clear consent, but this also hinders growth opportunities for Optimism Fractal and it would be helpful to be more aggressive with posting from Optimism Fractal’s account. Eventually we could use something like Herocast and Hats Protocol to delegate posting roles, but for now it seems that Dan and Rosmari are best positioned to post on this account as they see fit. If you’re interested in helping with the messaging, feel free to let us know.
What else?
Update Respect and Respect Game articles
- that seems like the best idea for now
